How It All Works
STEP 1
Registering to Take Part
All participating artists must register online in advance and pay the applicable registration fee.
This is a not-for-profit event run by a small team of volunteers. Your fee is kept to a minimum to help cover essential costs.
On arrival, you’ll receive:

A welcome pack with useful festival information

A personalised lanyard, which should be worn during Paint Outs, workshops, and the Plein Air competition
Basic registration includes:

All artist paint outs, quick draws & shenanigan events

Entry to the big brush off competition

Participation in the public exhibition and ongoing online gallery.

When you register, you’ll also have the chance to add on optional workshops, socials, and experiences. Think of them as your personal festival extras – ways to sharpen your skills, enjoy the company of fellow artists, and make your Weardale adventure even more memorable.
Loose figure drawing with Charles Knights
Sun 30th May 9.30-12noon
A lively, fun session exploring loose and expressive figure drawing, inspired by the energy and character of renowned North East artist Norman Cornish. Suitable for beginners and intermediates, with an emphasis on expression and posture and above all, having fun!

Step 3 is all about joining in, exploring, and enjoying the creative buzz of painting outdoors with others.
Bring your sketchbook, paints, and enthusiasm as you head out into the beautiful Weardale landscape.
Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just curious to give plein air painting a try, this step is your invitation to relax, create, and connect with fellow artists.
There’s no pressure — just the joy of capturing the moment, sharing ideas, and celebrating creativity in the open air.
