Creating Work
Artists are invited to create work during the plein air weekend in response to the local landscape and surroundings. A wide range of media is welcome, provided the work is suitable for display.
Each artist can submit one piece that has been created during the competition times for judging. Two additional pieces may then be submitted for exhibition only. All pieces must be no larger than 60cm including the frame, and must have been produced over the course of the weekend.
Framing is optional, however if you wish to frame your work please allow sufficient time before the submission deadline. There will be designated preparation tables in The Barrington Hall for artists to use.

Submitting Work For Judging
If you would like your work to be included in the competition, your artwork must be placed on the wooden display stands by 3:00pm on Saturday.
Please allow enough time to prepare your work before the deadline. This includes completing a price/details label for each artwork, which must accompany the piece when it is placed on the stand.
Works arriving after 3:00pm are welcome to be included in the exhibition but cannot be entered into the competition judging.
Judging & Awards
Judging will take place from 3:00pm on Saturday, once all competition entries have been submitted.
Prize winners will be announced shortly afterwards, with awards across our Oil, Watercolour and Other Media categories, along with any special awards.
Once judging is complete, the display will remain in place and open to the public as our selling exhibition.
Exhibition & Sales

The exhibition is commission free, and artists are welcome to decide whether each piece is for sale or NFS (Not For Sale).
To make things easy, we’ll have a manned sales area at the Town Hall where visitors can make purchases. Our team will help with the sales process and packaging, so you can get on with enjoying the festival rather than worrying about wrapping paintings!
We’ll do our very best to package everything safely — especially those freshly painted, slightly-too-wet masterpieces. Wish us luck with the wet ones!
Artists set their own prices, with sales handled through the festival’s designated sales area.
Collecting Work
Unsold works can be collected from the Town Hall from 2pm on Monday, where you’ll also have the opportunity to feature in our very first online gallery, showcasing your WPAF work for the year ahead and helping art lovers connect with you directly through your website and social media.
Alternatively, work can be collected from Smithy Studios in the following weeks by arrangement.
